“IF ONLY”

All of the “if only’s” in my life hold me back from the real freedom I’ve been given in Christ.

I like to think “if only”… then…

Fill in the blank. What “if only” in your life has been deceiving you into believing that if you only had it, it would be the piece to the puzzle called life? It would complete you?

Write it down even.

When we allow this kind of thinking to seep in, it causes us to become lose our focus and forget God– Who we really are living for. We forget why we are here and the great commission He has called us to.

Repent. Turn from your ways. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom, and discernment. To help you to set your priorities straight. To fix your desire on Him alone.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Ask the Lord to teach you and remind you of the One who has set you free. To remind you that you lack nothing. To remind you of who you are in Christ. And to cover you in grace so you can see all you’ve been given and be extremely grateful for it.

When we live with an “I want” mentality, it only leads to death. It causes anxiety, striving, and we lose sight of our real need. But if we choose to live with an “I have been given” mentality, it leads to life. We become content with what He’s given us, no longer wanting, and we are beyond thankful.

What if instead of asking the Lord to give you something, you asked Him to bring you to a place of peace with what you’ve already been given?

Ask your Father to give you a heavenly vision.

Here’s my honest answer…

This is the “if only”… then in my life.

I’ve somehow dug myself into a little comparison trap lately. I can see how it has caused me to really become distracted from seeking first His Kingdom. Lately I’ve been seeking my own.

This is the tape that’s been playing over and over again in my head…

“If only I was her … if only I had her body. If only I was not me. If only… Then I’d be free.”

But the truth of the matter is I am free.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭NIV
‬‬

I’m no longer held captive. I’ve been given freedom in Christ. My body is His, not my own. Bought with a price. I’m called to steward it and appreciate it. He made me me to bring Him glory. I’m called to take the tempting thoughts, and the lies captive in obedience to Christ.

I recognize I’ve been making myself a slave in letting those thoughts linger around, in comparing, and in the analyzing I have been doing.

The truth is:

I have been set free.
I’m satisfied.
I’m complete.
Christ has done that for me.
Nothing will make me more whole than He already has. I’m full.

Full of life.

My cup runneth over.

Now it’s time to stand firm in what Christ has done. Speak truth. Preach it to yourself daily. It’s worth the discipline.

Live.
Embrace.
Enjoy the freedom you’ve been given in Christ.

Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)

In a world of noise, writing is the catalyst that drives my focus back to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and reminds me of the hope I have in Him— nothing has changed, yet everything has changed.
